It’s hard to believe that the holidays are right around the corner and with all the cancelled gatherings this year, it may or may not be the first time you’ve even considered pulling out your table linens. If you’ve discovered some leftover stains from meals of the past, there’s still hope for your table cloths.
Try these tips to remove tough stains from your table linens:
- Pretreat the stains: Use a dull butter knife to remove any stuck-on crumbs or gunk. Once you’ve removed as much as possible, apply some pretreatment or laundry detergent directly to the stain. Rub the detergent into the fabric and allow it to sit. For grease stains, try dish soap instead of detergent.
- Wait it out: Place the fabric with the detergent into hot water. Allow it to soak up to eight hours or overnight before washing it in a washing machine like normal.
- Follow directions: Like most fabrics, table linens have care directions. Always check the tag before doing any cleaning to prevent linens from fading or losing their shape.
